Utilizing his own minimally invasive technique, Dr. Ghaly isolates stem cells collected from adipose tissue (lipoaspirate). These stem cells are then administered via intravenous infusion to effectively support overall health, neurotransmitter function, and tissue repair. In addition, a synergistic formulation of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and glutathione (as an antioxidant) are administered to aid assimilation and support endocrine system repair.
In addition to stem cells harvested from your own fat, Dr. Ghaly offers stem cells derived from the umbilical cord of live, healthy-birth babies which contains various cytokines, proteins and growth factors that aid in the repair, reconstruction, replacement and supplementation of cells and tissues.
A stem cell can replicate and differentiate. This means the cell can multiply, and it can turn into different types of tissues. There are different types of stem cells. “Embryonic stem cells” are cells from the embryonic stage that have yet to differentiate – as such, they can change into any body part at all. (These are also called “pluri-potent” cells). Since they are taken from unborn or aborted embryos, there is often controversy surrounding their use.
“Adult stem cells” are found in many tissues in the body – including bone marrow. These are also known as “mesenchymal stem cells” because they come from the mesodermal section of your body. They can differentiate into bone and cartilage, and probably all other mesodermal elements -- such as fat, connective tissue, blood vessels, muscle and nerve tissue. Bone marrow stem cells can be extracted and are usually cultured in order to multiply their numbers for future use.
Fat is also loaded with mesenchymal stem cells. In fact, it has hundreds to thousands of times more stem cells than bone marrow. Thanks to modern science, we now have tools that allow us to separate the stem cells from fat. Because most people have adequate fat supplies and the numbers of stem cells are so great, there is no need to culture the cells over a period of days and they can be used right away.
The first step is a minimally-invasive liposuction type of harvesting procedure which generally lasts 20 minutes and can be performed under local anesthesia. You may opt to take a Valium (or similar medication) which Dr. Ghaly will make available to you.
After harvesting the fat, the next step is to isolate the cells. This is accomplished by separating the fat cells and stem cells. Stromal Vascular Fraction -- which contains mesenchymal stem cells and growth factors -- is then processed from the harvested fat. During processing, Dr. Ghaly utilizes a closed sterile system to avoid contact with the environment. Processing time is approximately 90 minutes.
Finally, your stem cells are administered back over approximately 90 minutes via IV infusion (and/or injection as needed).
